Manshoor Composite Sanat Asia Company, comprised of faculty members and graduates of Dezful Islamic Azad University and based in Dezful’s Technological Units Growth Center, has, for the first time in the country, successfully “repaired gas transmission pipelines using polymer matrix composites” in collaboration with the Ilam Province Gas Company.
In an interview with the ANA news agency, Dr. Ali Heidari Moghaddam, the company’s founder and a faculty member at Dezful Islamic Azad University, explained: “In some sections of gas distribution and transmission pipelines, corrosion occurs due to environmental factors, which leads to a reduction in the pipe wall thickness.”
He added: “Based on international standards, pipeline repair is possible with up to an 80% reduction in pipe wall thickness (referring to the company’s previous project for the Gilan Province Gas Company). However, until now, there has been no guideline for conditions where the pipe wall has been perforated due to corrosion.”
Heidari Moghaddam stated: “With the trust of the Ilam Province Gas Company, the company’s colleagues, for the first time in Iran and the world, succeeded in repairing perforated gas transmission lines using composite coatings.”
Regarding the indigenous nature of these “composite coatings for gas transmission line repair,” the university faculty member said: “The technique, raw materials, compounds, and all materials used in this product are the result of research by the company’s colleagues and domestic specialists. This technique can be used to repair all pipelines in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries.”
Repair of Gas Pipelines Following Contract Between Dezful Unit and Gas Company
Ali Arshadi, the Vice President of Research and Technology at Dezful Islamic Azad University, also told ANA: “After the initial production and approval of the ‘Polymer Composite’ product by the faculty members of this university unit and achieving technology maturity level seven for this product, measures were taken to introduce it to target sectors, including the Ilam Province Gas Company. This resulted in the experimental application of the product on damaged (perforated due to corrosion) gas transmission pipelines.”
Ali Arshadi continued: “Following the inquiry made to the company, no leaks have been reported to date, approximately one month after the repair. We hope that this follow-up will lead to a contract with this company and other similar sectors.”
Trust Fosters the Flourishing of Knowledge-Based Companies’ Capabilities
Mahmoud Keshavarz, the CEO of the Ilam Province Gas Company, also told ANA: “By placing trust in domestic companies, we can witness the flourishing of the capabilities of knowledge-based and technological firms. After the repair of a 10-inch, Grade B pipeline in the province’s gas distribution line, with a working pressure of 250 psi and an 8mm diameter corrosion hole, no leaks have been observed from the repair site after one month.”
